Why work with Traveling Consultants?

Throughout the year your instructors will recommend working with one of our amazing traveling consultants. Sometimes you might feel like it’s daunting or that you’re not ready, but your instructors always have a plan and your best interests in mind.

Often, reservations come from a lack of information, so let’s take a minute to figure out what a traveling consultant is and why it’s such a great opportunity to work with one.

How is a traveling consultant different from my regular instructor?

Although every Arthur Murray instructor goes through a rigorous certification process and is constantly receiving training to become better teachers, traveling consultants have reached the very highest levels of training and certification in our system. Many consultants are judges whom you will recognize from dance-o-ramas; former high-level competitors; contributors to our syllabus; and generally have been dancing for decades.

Certain consultants also might have an area of expertise that you can capitalize on while they’re in your studio. If the person who wrote the salsa syllabus is in your studio, wouldn’t that be a great chance to learn from the master? Or if a former United States finalist is in for the day, wouldn’t you want to learn some techniques that helped them achieve such a high standard of dancing?

So if you think to yourself, “But my teacher is good enough!” remember that the consultants have so much knowledge and experience that they will likely be able to impart so much valuable information on a lesson that you will have enough to work on for weeks to come.

Why should I take a coaching lesson now?

Because your instructors are always thinking about your progress and goals, they know when the time is right to add a jolt of inspiration to your learning with a coaching lesson.

You might be moving into a new level and your instructor wants you to get a jumpstart on the new techniques that are special and different in this higher level. You might need some new and inspiring choreography for an upcoming routine. You might be adding a dance for the first time and need a boot camp on how to feel comfortable in this new style. You might be having trouble with a figure, technique or part of a routine and just need a third-eye perspective to fix it!

No matter the reason, your instructors know when it’s time to bring in the big guns. One of the best parts of having a consultant work with you is that although the coach will have to leave, your instructor will continue to work on the material for dozens of lessons afterward. It’s really like having 10 lessons infused into one. There’s truly much more value than it might seem at first glance.

There’s an unlimited number of reasons your teacher might recommend a coaching lesson for you, but it’s always specific to what’s going on in your dancing right now! So strike while the iron is hot, or you might miss your chance to work with the person who could’ve changed the next few months of your dancing dramatically.
