You’ve probably heard that everyone can dance. Whether or not you believed it is another story. Skeptical or not, we can assure you that everyone can learn—especially when they study with us at our San Diego dance studio. Over the years, we have helped dancers learn to love dance no matter their starting point. Our instructors have worked with professional dancers and beginners alike. If you are in Point Loma and are interested in improving your dance skills, Arthur Murray Dance Studio is the studio for you.
The Arthur Murray Approach
Point Loma residents have many dance studios to choose from. So if there are lots of options available to you, why should our dance studio be the one you opt for? While there are many great things about our studio, the one thing we feel really sets us apart from the rest is the Arthur Murray approach.
What is the approach most dance studios take? They focus on memorizing movements and finding the beat. These things are very important, but when you strictly focus on memorization, you fail to develop the dancer.
We focus on both teaching the dance and developing the dancer. This means that when you study with us, you do not rely strictly on memorization. Instead, you learn how to apply and adapt your skills to many different songs and many different situations. You become confident and creative, making your movements more organic, rather than robotic.
So with us, dance becomes a part of who you are, much like walking. Over time, it becomes second nature. And as you build your confidence, you will find yourself better able to enjoy the special moments in your life.
Part of what allows us to really focus on the dancer is that we offer tailored instruction. And this is not strictly a feature of our one-on-one classes. We have designed all of our class offerings to make it easy to give you precisely the instruction you need.
We accomplish this by offering all classes at four different levels. For each style of dance we teach, there is always a class that will challenge you without frustrating you, so that you will have room to grow. There is a perfect dance class for you, and it is here at our San Diego dance studio.
The Dance Styles We Teach
As noted above, you can study any of the dance styles we teach at four different levels. But what are these dance styles? We are proud to say that we limit the styles we teach to just a handful, allowing us to become genuine experts at them and ensuring that we stand out as a dance studio. Below are the styles we currently teach our Point Loma dance students.
Everyone knows Ballroom Dances. You saw them in cartoons growing up, or in Golden Age films on TV. And with us, you can learn to dance these elegant dances yourself. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
Latin Dances have become the king of competitive dance. And as such, many of our students are very interested in learning them. But don’t be intimidated by the theatrics you see on stage; we can make these dances accessible to anyone. Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dances
When you hear the name for this dance style, you likely picture big belt buckles and line dancing. Well, we are happy to inform you that these dances are nothing of the sort. Instead, they are lovely partner dances that focus on smooth gliding and scooting. When you see them, you will be amazed at how elegant they are. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, the Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
Sometimes we come across dances that we adore, but they don’t quite fit into the other styles. Rather than letting these dances slip through our fingers, we call them Specialty Dances. These dances are great because they borrow from other styles, making Specialty Dance classes a way to discover the styles you love. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, the Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dances
You might be curious who Arthur Murray is. He was one of the pioneers of swing, who helped popularize it and keep it alive even after its original era ended. We work hard to keep his legacy alive, teaching swing to new students every month. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
For those of us at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, there’s no need for a special reason to study dance. We love it, and we think you should too. But the truth is that most of our students come to us with a goal or event in mind. To give you an idea as to why you might want to study dance, take a look at some reasons below.
Anyone who has ever been young knows that the weekends are big for dancing. Whether at school dances, the local dive bar, or a packed nightclub, dance is used as a way to socialize. With our studio, you can enjoy social dance in class or at our monthly dance socials.
If you want a perfect wedding video, you need quality dancing at the reception. Unfortunately, many couples look back on their big day and cringe when they see themselves on the dance floor. But there is no reason for you to suffer the same fate. We offer lessons for the couple, the wedding party, and even all the guests. Let us make sure your big day is everything you want it to be.
Special Events Dance
Weddings are the big event for dancing, but there are others as well. What other events feature dancing as a big activity? You next high school reunion, the big cruise you are planning, the upcoming work party—and many others. Rather than sitting out dance after dance, allow us to get you dancefloor ready.
While we work with complete novices, we also help competitive dancers improve and gear up for competitions. Sometimes we even get the chance to help novice dancers jump into the world of competitive dancing. Whether your upcoming competition is your first or your hundredth, we are here to help you.
