Would you believe us if we told you anyone can learn to dance? Yes, that includes you! Over the years, Arthur Murray San Diego Dance Studio has helped all types of dancers learn how to command the dance floor, from those who have been dancing since they were children to those who spent their lives holding up the wall. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, don’t hold yourself back any longer—now is the time to discover your love for dance!
The Arthur Murray Approach
Ocean Beach has plenty of dance studios that you can study at. If you have so many studios to choose from, why should our San Diego dance studio be the one you pick? We believe that the reason we are the right choice for you, above all others, is the Arthur Murray approach.
Most dance studios focus strictly on memorizing the moves you need. This sounds good in theory, but it results in instruction that is lacking. Teaching dance and developing dancers are two separate, but interrelated concepts, and we excel at both.
Simply memorizing the steps results in stiff, robotic dancing. What you want are natural, fluid-looking movements that flow seamlessly. The goal is to make dance a part of who you are, something you can turn to as naturally as walking.
We connect the dance with the dancer and help you make this a part of your natural self. And you will find yourself shining with confidence as we do. With our approach, you will dance well and feel great about yourself in the process.
One reason we are able to develop dancers so well is that we teach our classes using tailored instruction, ensuring the class meets your exact needs. And you don’t need to sign up for one-on-one classes to get this; we offer tailored instruction even in group settings.
How do we do this? By offering all of our classes at four different levels. This makes it easy for you to take the class that challenges you without overwhelming you and allows the instructor to give you the exact guidance you need. Your perfect class is waiting for you at our San Diego dance studio.
The Dance Styles We Teach
Many dance studios thrive because they teach many different dance styles. Instead, we focus on teaching a more concentrated group of dances which allows us to offer superior instruction from teachers who are genuine experts at the styles they teach. Below are the styles we teach to our Ocean Beach dance students.
These are dances you most likely have fond memories of, whether you experienced them in person of saw them in a classic film. No matter how you know them, these are dances you love, and they are woven into the fabric of our culture. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
When you think of competitive dancing, chances are Latin Dances are what you picture. These dances are full of passion and require athleticism, making them a great workout. Whether you want to compete or just want a personal challenge, we would love to teach Latin Dance to you. Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dances
Whether you come in full Western gear or sweatpants and a t-shirt, you can truly enjoy Country and Western Dances. Picturing 90s line dancing? This is nothing of the sort. Instead, this style of dance focuses on partner dances that use smooth scooting and gliding for an elegant effect. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, the Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
Some dances are wonderful, but don’t quite fit into other styles. For these dances, we have Specialty Dance classes. The dances featured in these classes borrow from various styles, so they are a great way to discover which style is best for you. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, the Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dances
Who is Arthur Murray? He is our namesake and a pioneer in the world of swing dancing. As such, we are very honored to teach Swing and Rhythm Dances to our students. These dances are fast, fun, and have a great competitive and social scene connected with them. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
We love dance, and because we love it so much, we don’t think you need to have a special reason to take dance lessons. However, many students turn to us to get ready for a certain event or for another specific reason. Below are some of the reasons why our Ocean Beach students have turned to us.
Dancing is big on the weekends, which is why nightclubs are always packed. But not everyone is up for the club scene. Even if you don’t care for clubbing, you can still enjoy social dance through our group classes and the dance socials we host each month.
No one wants to watch their wedding video and cringe at their dancing. We can help the couple learn how to dance, give lessons to the entire wedding party, or even choreograph a big number for all of the guests. With our help you’ll never have to fear dance floor jitters on your big day.
Special Events Dance
While weddings are big for dancing, they are not the only events where dancing is part of the celebration. Where else might you encounter a dance floor? There are high school reunions, cruises, galas, and more. So if you have a special event coming up, allow us to help.
We love to help competitive dancers get ready for their next—or first—competition. We can have you ready whether you have ribbons to your name or have never danced in your life. Let us help you perfect your technique and cheer you towards victory!
