Everyone can learn to dance. Yes, even you! So whether you have plenty of rhythm or feel like you have two left feet, our team is ready and waiting to help you build your confidence for your next event. Here at Arthur Murray San Diego Dance Studio, we work with dancers of all abilities. So don’t hold yourself back; hop onto the dance floor with us!
The Arthur Murray Approach
La Jolla is served by numerous dance studios, so you might be wondering why our San Diego dance studio is the right one for you. Well, in addition to our professional instructors and passion for dance, there is something else that sets us apart: the Arthur Murray approach.
You see, most dance studios can teach you the dance moves you need to learn. You go to class, memorize the steps, and learn how to move in time with the music. But this neglects the dancer—you.
Unless the studio also focuses on developing you as a dancer, you can expect your movements to be stiff and robotic, not natural and fluid. When both the dancer and dance connect, everything comes together, and you feel better as you dance.
We teach our La Jolla dance students the steps, and the arm movements, and how to understand and hit the beats. But we also go beyond that. We focus on the joy of dance. We focus on building confidence and helping you relax. What is the point in dancing if you do not enjoy it? There is no other reason to dance!
What helps us develop dancers is that we offer tailored instruction. Whether you take a solo lesson or join a group class that is already in progress, you get the exact class you need. We do this by offering a comprehensive selection of classes.
We offer classes for numerous styles of partner dances. Each of these classes is offered at four levels—beginner, bronze, silver, and gold—and you can also opt for individual classes. This makes it easy for you to take the class that challenges you without overwhelming you, making it easy to grow as a dancer and discover your love of dance.
The Dance Styles We Teach
For the team at our San Diego dance studio, the goal is not to teach every style of dance. We believe that we can offer better instruction by picking the dances we know best and working until we are true experts at them. So while we do not offer lessons for all dance styles, you can rest assured that when it comes to those we do teach, we are the very best. Below are the dances we teach to our La Jolla dance students.
Ballroom Dances are dances you have no doubt been familiar with since you were a small child. Whether you first encountered them in a nostalgic animated film or a film from Hollywood’s Golden Age, these dances are what we all picture when we think about simple, elegant dance. These dances are ideal any time you need some sophisticated moves, making them appropriate for weddings, galas, and more. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
Latin Dances are the king of competitive dance. But you don’t need to be a competitive dancer to learn them. Whether you are looking to impress, want to challenge yourself, or just need a good workout, these dances are wonderful to learn. With us, you will soon be setting the dance floor on fire! Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dances
No boots? No belt buckle? No problem! Whether you go full Western wear or just show up in jeans and a t-shirt, you will love learning Country and Western Dances. Far removed from the line dancing you are probably picturing, these dances are elegant partner dances that focus on smooth gliding and scooting. They are easy to learn and work in most any setting. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
Dances are as unique as the people who create them. And that means that while some dances are easy to classify, others are a bit more of a struggle. When we find an incredible dance that doesn’t fit into a box, we call it a Specialty Dance. These dances bring together elements from many different styles, making them a great way to discover what you love. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, the Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dances
You have no doubt noticed that we are named after Arthur Murray, but you might not have known that he was a swing king, helping popularize the style of dance throughout the country. As such, we are very proud to teach this fun, social, and energizing style of dance. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
Since we are dance instructors, dance is our life. However, we do not expect the same level of commitment from you. So, while we study dance simply because we love it, you might need another reason to get you into our San Diego dance studio. Below are just a few reasons why our La Jolla dance students turn to us.
You know what is a great way to meet new people and connect with those you know and love? Dance! It is why humans started dancing in the first place, and it is why they continue to do so in clubs, bars, at weddings, and more. You can join classes and meet new people or take classes with friends. We also offer dance socials so you can meet new people in the La Jolla dance community.
While you never want to look silly on the dance floor, the stakes are even higher at weddings. These events are almost always recorded, and if you are the bride or groom, you can expect even more pressure. We can help eliminate that pressure with classes focused on wedding dance. We can teach just the couple, the entire wedding party, or even all the guests.
Special Events Dance
The stakes may not be as high, but you still want to make a good impression at other special events. If you have an event coming up where dance is key, we can help you get ready. From reunions to galas to cruises and more, you can feel confident on the dance floor with our help.
We love helping dancers gear up for competitions. We have helped dancers who have been competing for years, but we have also helped people get ready for their very first competition. No matter your skill level, we can help you impress the judges and discover your talents.
