Here at our Oceanside dance studio, we welcome all dancers. We work with those who have been dancing their entire lives, those who only took a few lessons as children, and those who have never danced at all. No matter where your starting point is, we will help you improve as a dancer, while having plenty of fun along the way. From group lessons to solo lessons to special choreographed routines, we do it all, and we do it for you!
The Arthur Murray Approach
Our Oceanside studio is far from the only dance studio serving San Marcos. If you have plenty of options to choose from, why make us your San Marcos dance studio? Because we offer the Arthur Murray approach.
Our method is a two-part approach to dance instruction. First, we teach the dances, focusing on things such as rhythm, control, and foot movements. Essentially, all the elements that are vital to learning dance.
But we also go beyond muscle memory. Great dancers do not simply know the movements; great dancers have confidence, personality, and take joy in what they do. And here at our Oceanside dance studio, we work to also build up the dancer, not just teach the dance.
This might not sound like a big deal if you are only taking dance for fun, but the truth is that this part is vital to actually enjoying dance. We want you to be laughing and relaxed as you learn. Our instructors are always fun and they have a sense of humor that makes dancing even more enjoyable. While you may be taking dance lessons, we don’t want you to feel like you are in school.
Part of what allows us to make all students feel comfortable is that we offer an individualized approach. We have a comprehensive selection of classes that makes it easy to get the instruction you need. Our San Marcos dance students can learn at a level that challenges them without overwhelming them, and they can study any of the dances or dance styles we offer.
The Dance Styles We Teach
As you read below, you will notice that we do not teach every dance style possible. Instead, we stick to what we know well. By being a little picky when it comes to the dances we teach, we ensure that we offer the highest quality of instruction. Not sure which style you want to learn? Just talk to us and we can help you decide. Below are the dance styles we currently teach to our San Marcos dance students.
Classic, elegant, and filled with glamor, Ballroom Dances call to mind the Golden Age of Hollywood. If you ever wonder where those classic dances have gone, they are right here at our Oceanside dance studio. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
Audiences love to watch Latin Dance, our students love to learn it, and we love to teach it. Passionate, intricate, and highly physical, learning Latin Dance will build your confidence and serve as a great workout. Do not be intimidated by the professionals you see on TV; we know how to teach this style of dance so it isn’t too difficult. Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dances
Don’t have a single pair of cowboy boots in your wardrobe? Not to worry—Country and Western Dances are for everybody. While the name might make you picture bolero ties and Wrangler jeans, you can perform these dances in any setting without feeling out of place. In fact, due to their ease, we highly recommend you learn these dances if you are looking to pick up a few moves for an upcoming event. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, the Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
New dances are created all the time, and many of them are fusion dances. These dances pull together elements from other styles, which means they don’t neatly fit into a single category. Instead, we term them Specialty Dances. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, the Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dances
We are named after Arthur Murray, and as such, we work hard to keep the dance style he pioneered alive. We take a lot of pride in teaching Swing and Rhythm Dances, and we think that you will love learning them. These dances are fun, showy, and great for enjoying with friends. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive, taught right here at our Oceanside dance studio.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
Do you need a reason to study dance? Not at all. However, most students turn to us to prepare for a certain event or achieve a personal goal. Below are some of the more common reasons dance students turn to us.
With our dance classes, you can meet new people, take classes with your friends, or learn skills to apply in social settings. Many people love the idea of having fun with dance, but they just lack the confidence. Our classes can help you build that confidence so you can enjoy yourself more. We also offer dance socials so you can practice your skills while getting to know others in the San Marcos dance community.
