Dances We Teach
If you’ve seen performances of the Waltz, Vienna Waltz, Tango or Foxtrot, then you’re familiar with the ballroom classics found in the smooth and standard category. These dances share one central feature in common: flowing lower body movement combined with minimal upper body movement. We teach all four of the main styles in this category. In addition, we teach the Quickstep, which ups the pace and has a lighter overall feel.
Swing & Rhythm Dances
We teach six dances in this perennially popular category. Five of these steps — the Jitterbug, Jive, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and Lindy Hop — are swing variations that have their roots in early 20th century’s big band era. The sixth dance is a two-person form of the Hustle, a rhythm style that lit up dance floors throughout the disco craze of the 1970s.
You can find high-energy Latin dance steps to suit all environments, from the ballroom to a club dance floor or backyard celebration. We specialize in four formal styles in this beloved category: the Paso Doble, Cha-Cha, Samba and Rumba. We also specialize in four informal styles: the Merengue, Bolero, Salsa and Mambo. Rhythmic intensity, a love of self-expression and a grounding in South and Central America traditions underlie all eight Latin steps.
Country Western Dances
The musical traditions that fuel country western dance extend as far back as the 1700s and span the country from coast to coast. And steps in this category maintain their enduring popularity here in the 21st century. Choose from any one of seven dances that will have you boot-scooting across the floor, including the Country Shuffle, Country Triple, Progressive Two-Step, Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, West Coast Swing and Country Swing.
Instead of coming from a single dance tradition, styles in this category have mixed backgrounds that can include everything from ballroom steps to the prominent rhythms of Africa and Latin America. Our instructors will show you everything you need to know to perform some of the most popular specialty dances. Choose from the Zouk, Bachata, Argentine Tango and Nightclub Two-Step.
Reasons for Taking Dance Lessons
Dancing at a Wedding
Whether you’re a guest or a member of the main party, dancing is a common focus at weddings of all kinds. For a relatively casual or informal wedding, you may only need to sharpen up a few basic skills in the buildup to the big day. However, you may also need to invest enough time to learn the details of a formal dance style for certain types of traditional or themed ceremonies.
Social gatherings around the world feature dancing as a casual activity. This means that if you have a few basic moves in your repertoire, you automatically have a way to connect with other people and increase your enjoyment. Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have some experience, a trained instructor can show you how to perform a single casual dance or help you add multiple dances to your skill set.
TV dance competitions are now a common feature of everyday life. However, you don’t have be a public figure to enjoy the thrill of pitting your skills against those of other seasoned dancers. Whether you’re an experienced performer seeking to broaden your current abilities or a newcomer making long-term plans, an advanced dance class may form part of upcoming agenda.
Dancing at Special Events
You may be called upon to dance at a wide variety of special events, including class reunions, graduation parties, holiday parties, fundraisers and balls. Lessons from a trained instructor can prepare you for participation in any type of event. Lessons may be especially important if your upcoming event requires you to perform a specific style of dance, if you have no prior dancing experience or if you haven’t used your existing dance skills for an extended period of time.
