The Arthur Murray Approach
In Woodcrest and the surrounding areas, there are so many dance studios you can take lessons at. Because of this, you might be wondering why our Riverside dance studio is the right choice for you.
There are so many reasons to choose us, from our incredible teachers who are dedicated to delivering amazing classes every day to our beautiful studio. But what really sets us apart from the rest of the dance studios in the area is the Arthur Murray approach.
What defines this approach? The fact that we work to develop dancers just as much as we work to teach dance. This means that we do not stick to simple memorization of movements. Instead, we work to make dance a part of you, something natural that you can adapt to any music, to any setting. Memorization alone results in robotic dancing that often depends on the right music; our approach makes dance fluid, allowing you to feel comfortable whenever you encounter a dance floor.
How do we make sure that you develop as a dancer instead of just memorizing steps? We accomplish this through lessons that are tailored to the needs of our students. We do this in every class, whether you are opting for solo lessons or studying with a group. Each class we teach is offered at four levels: beginner, bronze, silver, and gold. Because of this, you can easily find the class that challenges you without overwhelming you. Before you know it, you will find that dance feels like a part of you.
The Dance Styles We Teach
Arthur Murray Dance Studio has made its name by teaching a few, select dance styles and teaching them very well. So while we do not teach every style of dance, we do offer the best instruction for the dances we do teach. Below are the styles of dance we currently offer to our Woodcrest dance students.
For most of us, the first type of partner dance we ever see is Ballroom Dance. We see it in cartoons and movies, where women dance in beautiful ballgowns with sweeping skirts, and the men guide them around the dance floor. If you love the sophistication of these dances, you can enjoy it yourself by studying ballroom dance. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
Over the past few years, Latin Dance has become the king of competitive dance, but you do not need to be a professional dancer to enjoy them. Fast, fun, sensual, and athletic, you should learn this style of dance just for the joy it brings. We make sure every class is at the right level for you, so do not feel intimidated by what you see on TV. Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dance
As you read the name of this dance style, a certain picture likely popped into your head. It probably had some line dancing, cowboy boots, and 10-gallon hats in it. And while there is nothing wrong with any of that, the Country and Western Dances we teach are focused on elegant partner dances that work everywhere, from your local dive bar to an elegant wedding. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, the Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
We love dance—any and all dance. But, as noted above, we are picky about the dances we teach. Sometimes we fall in love with a dance that doesn’t quite fit into any of the standard categories. When we find such a dance, we call it a Specialty Dance. These dances borrow from various styles, creating a fusion that is fun and a great way to jump off into other styles. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, the Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dance
Arthur Murray is our namesake, and we are very proud to continue his work, helping people discover the joy of dance. And since Swing and Rhythm Dance is the style he dedicated his life to, we are particularly pleased to teach these dances. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
Do you need to have a specific reason or goal to study with us? Not at all! But the truth is that most of our students do have a specific motivation for studying dance. Below are some of the more common reasons our Woodcrest dance students turn to us.
The whole reason humans ever started to dance was to socialize with each other. And while dance is now considered an art, it is still a big part of how we let loose and have fun. Many students take our classes with friends or with the goal of meeting new people, and our dance socials are great for getting to know others in the local dance community.
We have all seen some cringe-worthy dancing at weddings. But don’t let your fear of becoming the star of an embarrassing YouTube video stop you from having fun. Our classes can help you gear up for the next wedding you attend, whether you are the couple, part of the wedding party, or just a guest.
Special Events Dance
Weddings are the main special event for dancing, but they aren’t the only one. Any time people get together, dance tends to be a central element. From cruises to galas and more, we can help you feel confident about the next big event in your life.
Gearing up for a competition is quite different from getting ready for a special event. You aren’t just trying to enjoy yourself: you also want to wow judges and crowds. We have helped many dancers with improving their competitive dance skills, from those who have been competing for years to those wanting to cross an item off their bucket list.
