The Arthur Murray Approach
Pacific Beach has plenty of dance studios that you can learn from. So if you have plenty of options, what makes our San Diego dance studio the right one for you? While we believe our professional and dedicated dance teachers are a big reason why, what helps them set our studio apart from the rest is the Arthur Murray approach.
While most dance studios will help you memorize the moves you need, few are able to do that and help you develop as a dancer. But isn’t learning to dance and developing as a dancer the same thing? Not from our perspective.
Simply learning a dance isn’t enough. By going through memorized movements, you often risk looking stiff and robotic. Natural, fluid dancing comes not from memorization, but from comfort and confidence. When you can relax into the dance, you connect with it, and the whole performance looks infinitely better.
While we teach our Pacific Beach dance students the steps and the arm movements, we also go beyond that. We work to ensure you feel good about yourself. We make sure you are enjoying the process. Because really, why study dance if it doesn’t bring you joy?
Part of what helps us help you grow is that we offer personalized instruction. And we offer this whether you are in a group class or opting for one-on-one instruction. Our tiered classes make it easy to find the ideal fit for you. So whether you are a life-long wallflower or a competitive dancer, your perfect class is at our San Diego studio.
The Dance Styles We Teach
Some dance studios work to make sure they teach as many different styles of dance as possible, but we don’t. Instead, we focus on a few dance styles and make sure we are experts at them. As such, the instruction we offer is the very best you can get. Below are the dances we currently offer our Pacific Beach dance students.
These are dances everyone knows and loves. We associate them with elegance and sophistication. As children, we marveled over them in animated movies, and as adults, we fell in love with them all over again watching them in Golden Age films. If you have an event where you need dances that are simple, yet impressive, Ballroom Dances are for you. Among these dances we teach are the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and the Quickstep.
This style of dance has taken over the competitive circuit, pleasing audiences in person and via television. While the dancers you have seen might make you feel intimidated, we promise that this is a style of dance you can learn. Whether you are hoping to impress the judges, just want to challenge yourself, or are looking for a different kind of workout, you cannot beat Latin Dance. Included amongst the Latin Dances we teach are the Bolero, Rumba, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Merengue, and Salsa.
Country and Western Dances
No boots? No cowboy hat? No problem! You can show up for our classes in full Western gear or just come as you are. These dances are incredibly fun, and easy to learn, making them ideal for anyone who wants to learn some casual dances that can be used in most any environment. With Arthur Murray, you can learn the Country Western Waltz, Texas Two-Step, Country Shuffle, Country Swing, West Coast Swing, the Progressive Two-Step, and the Country Triple.
Not every dance is easy to classify. There are many newer dances that pull inspiration from various dance styles, creating something new and unique. When we find a dance like this, we call it a Specialty Dance. Because they borrow from various styles, studying these dances is a great way to learn what you love. Among the specialty dances we teach are the Nightclub Two-Step, Bachata, Argentine Tango, and the Zouk.
Swing and Rhythm Dances
Our namesake was one of the kings of swing, helping to develop the genre of dance as well as popularize it throughout the country. And we are very proud to carry on his work here at our San Diego dance studio. Let us turn you into a Swing and Rhythm expert with dances such as the East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Hustle, and the Jive.
Reasons to Take Dance Lessons
As dance instructors, we have made dancing our lives. And of course, we made that choice because we simply love dance. However, we don’t expect you to study dance simply because you love it. Our Pacific Beach students take dance lessons for many reasons. Below are just a few reasons why students have studied with us over the years.
Why do people love to go dancing on Friday and Saturday nights? Because it’s a great way to socialize! You can meet new people, have fun with those you already know, and just enjoy yourself. We offer classes that make it easy to meet other dancers, take lessons with friends, or even get you ready for our dance socials where you can meet others in the community.
No one wants to feel foolish on the dance floor, but weddings really up the pressure. In addition to the tables lining the dance floor, the event is often recorded. We can help you overcome the jitters and dance like a pro, whether you are the couple, the wedding party, or a guest.
Special Events Dance
Weddings aren’t the only events where dancing is expected, and you will still want to look your best. If you have an event coming up where there will be a dance floor, allow us to help. We will ensure you feel confident going into your next reunion, gala, cruise, and more.
Helping dancers get ready for competition is a pleasure for us. We love having the chance to help them hone their skills and build their confidence. When you study with us, we cheer you on the whole way. Whether you are new to dance or have been around the dance floor many times, we can help you impress judges and audiences alike.
